English: Former railway museum, Swindon. The building with the twin spires is seen in this 1967 image by Gordon Hatton 862409 It has been superseded as a museum by the STEAM museum, also in this square, of which numerous images have been previously submitted. The part of the building nearest the viewpoint was built by the Great Western Railway in the 19th century as a lodging house for single male employees of the railway works in the town. I recall reading that it wasn't successful as most young men preferred to lodge with families in the nearby railway village, images of which are also on Geograph. The building is now owned by the council and is evidently being refurbished for another use.
