English: Dunseverick Castle The ruins of Dunseverick Castle on the County Antrim coast. What remains here today is merely part of the gatelodge, the castle having been destroyed by Cromwellian troops led by Robert Munro in 1650. A small tower collapsed into the sea in 1978.
The castle and earthworks are Scheduled Historic Monuments. St Patrick is believed to have visited here in the 5th Century. Vikings attacked in 870AD and the castle was then held by various Irish lords until the 17th century. The National Trust was given the site in 1962.
